Marta Martins
Marta Martins was born in Porto, Portugal, in 1984. She obtained a BS degree in Chemistry Engineering (2008) and an MS degree in Chemistry Engineering – Energy Optimization in Chemical Industry (2010) from the School of Engineering, Polytechnic of Porto (ISEP). She started as a researcher in the Biomaterials and Nanotechnology Group of CIETI at ISEP, from 2008 until 2011. In this period, her work was focused on several areas: the inclusion of complexes with cyclodextrins and characterization of antioxidants for novel applications in industry (2008), the efficiency of antioxidants to inhibit the autoxidation of linoleic acid and biodiesel (2009-2010) and by the end nanotechnology applied to pesticides (2011). In 3B’s group (2012-2014), Marta developed an innovative process to design novel biopolymers for biomedical devices and bone tissue engineering combining green technology: ionic liquids and supercritical fluid foaming.
Then she moved to Instituto Superior Técnico of Lisbon to work with different kinds of electrode materials for oxygen reduction reaction (ORR) and for oxygen evolution reaction (OER) to application in renewable energy technology devices such as fuel cells and water electrolysers. During her phD (2018-2022), she worked with biomass originated from foresty wastes, as an energy source. Actually, she works in development of new electrodes for metal air-batteries.
