Abstract
The concept of a circular bioeconomy is considered key regarding the future transition to a more sustainable economic model. Agroindustries such as swine farms pose significant challenges to ecological systems and should be at the core of this paradigm change in the context of the transformation of biomass (including wastes) into energy and added-value materials. In this presentation, we will understand how waste-to-energy electrochemical approaches can be combined with other technologies to improve the environmental and energetic performance of swine farms. A brief introduction to the challenges concerning the excess generation of swine wastewater will be performed before highlighting a series of experimental findings that provide a framework for the development of a complete treatment and valorization solution for swine-derived effluents.
